Phrae is located in the north of Thailand. It is located deep within the valley of the river Yom. Mountain ranges dominate the landscape in the northern area of the province, as well as in the east. Like most places in Thailand, the economy is fed by local crafts, agriculture and tourism. One of the most beautiful sights in the area is the Namtok Mae Khaem, a 2 storey waterfall, and just a bit further away is the Namtok Tat Mok. There are also a number of religious sites around the area including the Wat Phra That Cho Hae, one of the major religious sites in the province. It also plays host to the golden chedi.
