Maha Sarakham province is located in the north east of the country. The entire area is mainly covered in rice fields which are fed by the river Chi. There are some hilly areas in the north and the east of the country, however these are fairly small. The majority of the economy is fed by the amount of rice that is produced in this area, as well as a substantial portion of silk. One of the most popular tourist destinations here is the Koshampi Forest Park which is home to a number of water rapids as well as the rare crab-eating macaque which only appears here.
