With a population of less than 700,000 spread over 55 square kilometres, Loei is the most sparsely populated province in Thailand. The majority of the area is covered by mountains, whilst the other half is left fertile by the Loei River, this of course has contributed towards agriculture being massive industry here. This is one of the coldest provinces in Thailand with the temperature regularly dropping below 0 degrees. Tourists are attracted to the area due to the amount of religious monuments and natural locations on show here, although the economy mainly relies on the production of their agriculture, especially the production of tamarind, a popular spice in Thailand.
